How to Optimize Your Affiliate
Site
We all want the number one spot on google for whatever
keyword that is relevant to our affiliate site. In this post I
will explain in detail how to get the throne on google for
maximum targeted traffic.
There is no doubt that this is the best and most efficient
way to get traffic to your site. You just need to make sure you
are targeting the right keywords so your visitors will be
interested in whatever affiliate product you are promoting.
So first you need to know exactly what keyword phrase you
want to rank for. You can pick a few but it is best to start
off with just one very good keyword. The ideal keyword you
would want your affiliate site to rank for would have as little
competition as possible, as many people searching for it on
google, and you would want the keyword to be as close to the
buying stage as possible.
Which explains why the name of a very popular affiliate
product would be the best one to target since there is a lot of
money to be made there.
So once you find a great keyword that you think is a buying
keyword it is time to see how much competition it has.
Generally the keyword for your affiliate site should be getting
at least 1,000 searches a month.
In order to get an idea of how much traffic it is getting
put it into google's search box and put it in quotation marks
which indicates that exact phrase.
So once you do that you are going to want to look at how
many pages are ranking for that keyword. If it is less than
about 10,000 pages then that is a very good sign. Anything over
100,000 I would suggest skipping that keyword.
This is not the best way to analyze the traffic. It is just
getting a good idea. So then you are going to want to take that
keyword out of quotes and then search again.
Basically the guys at the top of google would be your
competition for the affiliate site. So what I normally do is
visit the top 5 pages and find out if I can outrank them. What
you really want to watch out for are big sites that have a ton
of pages. These are known as authority sites.
They are the hardest to outrank for since they have the most
credibilty through google's eyes. Which basically means that it
would be hard to outrank with your affiliate site only having
ten posts altogether.
So obviously a website like wikipedia would be almost
impossible for your small affiliate site to outrank for.
Just make sure that there are no more than 7 authority sites
on the front page and then choose that keyword as your main
one.
OK finally I can get on to how to optimize your site. There
are certain guidelines you must keep in mind when setting up
your affiliate site.
First of all you should always put the main keyword in the
title, description, domain name, tags, and in half of the post
titles you write.
You can always include some of them in your actually content
but there really is no need to worry about keyword density and
that BS. That is because your content is going to have keywords
related to your main keyword instead.
If you go to the list of keywords you got from typing in
your main keyword at the google adwords tool you should find
plenty of these kinds of keywords. They are known as LSI
keywords.
So I would always pick at least ten of those keywords that
you can include in your content and in the other half of your
post titles you make for you affiliate site.
That way google will know exactly what to list your site
under so that their visitors are happy and keep using them as
their source of information.
Ok so that is pretty much how to optimize your affiliate
site for your main keyword. Good luck.
